Pierce Brosnan is joining Chris Hemsworth in Extraction 3, the latest instalment of Netflix’s action franchise. The two-time Golden Globe nominee is among five new cast members announced for the film.
Brosnan joins South Korean star Don Lee, Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry and Siena Agudong. Their roles remain under wraps, as does the plot of the upcoming film.
The third Extraction film is currently shooting in Australia. Hemsworth will return as Australian mercenary Tyler Rake, while Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani are also set to reprise their franchise roles.
Based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks and illustrator Fernando León González, the franchise follows Rake on high-risk rescue missions across the world.
Sam Hargrave, who directed the first two films, returns for the third. David Weil has written the screenplay from a story by Parks, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo.
Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Ari Costa are producing for AGBO. Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson are producing for Wild State, alongside Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin. Shelby Malone and Steven V Scavelli serve as executive producers.
Brosnan most recently appeared in Netflix’s The Thursday Murder Club and Paramount+’s MobLand.
Lee is known for South Korean films including Train to Busan and The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil. He will also star in the upcoming Korean-language Tygo, another franchise entry centred on his character, a former child soldier turned mercenary.
Taslim, known for The Raid, Train to Busan and the Mortal Kombat films, has also appeared in the crime drama series Warrior.
Former professional mixed martial artist Lewis-Parry played antagonist Samson in Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later and its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. His other recent credits include Gladiator II and The Running Man.
Agudong, who stars in Tubi’s Sidelined film franchise, will also appear in Amazon’s upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie.
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for Extraction 3.
