Bangladesh posted 265 for 8 in the series decider against New Zealand in Chattogram, riding on a fine century from Najmul Hossain Shanto and a key knock from Litton Das.
The innings did not start well. Will O’Rourke struck early and reduced Bangladesh to 36 for 3 inside 10 overs. Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan Tamim fell quickly, while Soumya Sarkar made 18 before getting out.
From there, Shanto and Litton changed the game. They built a calm partnership. They rotated strike well and avoided risks. Their understanding at the crease stood out.
Litton reached his fifty off 71 balls. He then picked up the pace. He stepped out to O’Rourke and hit a four and a six. He scored 76 off 91 balls before falling to Lennox.
Shanto held one end firm. He played with control and timing. He reached his fourth ODI hundred with ease. He scored 105 off 119 balls and led the recovery.
The pair added 160 runs for the fourth wicket. It is Bangladesh’s second highest ODI stand against New Zealand. It came at a time when the team needed it most.
Late cameos helped push the total. Tawhid Hridoy made 33 not out off 29 balls. Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 22 off 18.
Bangladesh finished on 265 for 8. New Zealand now need 266 to win the series.
