Mir Shahe Alam, state minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co‑operatives, has instructed officials to prepare a “fact‑based and realistic” progress report on the implementation of the government’s 180‑day work plan, with emphasis on employment generation and good governance.
Speaking as chief guest at a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Shahe Alam reviewed progress on the plan drawn up in line with the government’s election manifesto.
He noted that over the past six months the ministry has taken significant steps to improve living standards, modernise urban management, and advance rural development, safe water, sanitation, and civic services.
“The achievements, ongoing activities, and future plans of the ministry and its affiliated departments must be presented in a fact‑based manner,” he told officials.
He urged them to prioritise initiatives on employment creation, women’s empowerment, and local economic development to reflect the positive impact on citizens’ lives.
The state minister stressed that establishing good governance, ensuring transparency and accountability, and implementing effective anti‑corruption measures must be presented as integral parts of the 180‑day achievements.
He said the government’s core objective is to earn public trust through welfare‑oriented development.
Invoking the prime minister’s “Clean and Green City” vision, Shahe Alam underscored the need for modern, integrated, and sustainable waste management in Dhaka and nationwide.
He also called for coordinated efforts among institutions to build a clean, healthy, and livable Bangladesh by raising civic awareness.
The meeting was chaired by Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hassan.
Senior officials present included Rowshan Ara Begum, director general of the National Institute of Local Government (NILG); Md Aminul Islam, managing director of Dhaka WASA; Surayya Akthar Jahan, additional secretary (administration); Md Mahmudul Hasan, director general (planning, monitoring, evaluation, and inspection); Md Belal Hossain, chief engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED); Md Abdul Awal, chief engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE); Abu Nasar Mohammad Abdullah, registrar general (Birth and Death Registration); and Md Rabiul Islam, acting officer of Dhaka Mosquito Control Department.
Chief executive officers of all city corporations and managing directors of all WASAs also joined, both in person and virtually.
