Ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election, Shahadat Hossain Selim, chairman of the Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party (BLDP), has dissolved his own party and joined the BNP. On Monday afternoon, he formally joined the BNP by presenting flowers to BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the chairman’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
BLDP was a partner party in the 12-party alliance, a coalition allied with the BNP-led anti-fascist movement. Considering this, he had already received a green signal from the BNP. However, after joining BNP, Shahadat Hossain Selim said, “I have dissolved our party and joined BNP.” He will contest in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election from Lakshmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency under the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol.
Meanwhile, welcoming Shahadat Hossain Selim, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “Selim is the captain of the Sheaf of Paddy for the Lakshmipur-1 constituency in the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election. He will contest from this seat with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.”
Tamiz Uddin Titu, General Secretary of the now-defunct Bangladesh LDP, informed that all members of the 111-member central committee of Bangladesh LDP have formally joined BNP. With this, Bangladesh LDP stands dissolved.
Among those present at the joining ceremony were BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Chittagong Divisional Organizing Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, and others.
