Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern regarding a rampage carried out by miscreants at an internet businessman’s establishment in Chattogram city.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, he demanded that the attackers be swiftly arrested and brought to justice. He further called for the disclosure of attackers’ political identities, if they have any.
“The way the rampage was carried out at an internet businessman’s establishment in Chattogram is extremely alarming,” Shafiqur said.
“If the attackers have a political identity, reveal it. Capture them and bring them under the law. I do not know if provision for severe punishment will be made. The signs are not very good”.
The Jamaat leader observed that the law-and-order situation in the country is deteriorating, with a succession of new types of crimes occurring. He questioned the identity of those behind these incidents and the source of their “khutir jor” (clout or backing).
Shafiqur further contended that the public must now take all necessary measures for their own self-defence, asserting that the government is failing to provide any effective security.
“Innovative incidents are happening one after another,” he remarked, again questioning the source of the perpetrators’ strength.
These comments from Shafiqur have sparked fresh debate regarding the country’s law and order situation amidst ongoing social and political discussions surrounding the attack on the Chattogram business.
