Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has vowed to transform Maheshkhali into a major economic hub, ensuring fair prices for salt and betel leaf farmers and implementing a deep sea port in the region.
Speaking at an election rally in Maheshkhali, he also urged the public to support Jamaat in the upcoming referendum and general elections.
In his keynote address at the rally, Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the longstanding neglect of salt and betel leaf farmers in Maheshkhali.
“These farmers have suffered for years due to unfair pricing of their produce. If Jamaat-e-Islami forms the government, we will guarantee the planned development of these vital sectors,” he said.
On the proposal for a deep-sea port in Maheshkhali, the Jamaat Ameer emphasised its potential to drive economic growth.
“The establishment of a deep-sea port here will turn this region into the country’s economic centre, create job opportunities, and strengthen the national economy,” he added.
Shafiqul Rahman also discussed the upcoming 13th National Parliament election and the referendum. He encouraged the public to vote for Jamaat’s symbol (scale) and to cast a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum to support the formation of an Insaaf-based state.
Further elaborating on his vision for the region, he stated, “If HM Hamidur Rahman Azad is elected as a Member of Parliament and Jamaat-e-Islami forms the government, Maheshkhali’s youth will be given the opportunity to participate in governance. We will appoint ministers from among you.”
Shafiqur Rahman arrived at the rally in Maheshkhali around 11:45am on Monday, arrived by helicopter at the Gorakhgata Adarsha High School ground in Maheshkhali municipality.
Following his speech, he traveled by road to attend another rally at New Bazar Government Primary School in the larger Maheshkhali Union, located five kilometers away.
Hamidur Rahman Azad, assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami and the party’s candidate for the Maheshkhali-Kutubdia constituency, also spoke at the rally.
He noted, “As part of his election tour, Jamaat’s Ameer has addressed rallies in both Maheshkhali and Cox’s Bazar, presenting his development plans for the region.”
Following the rally, the Jamaat Ameer left for Cox’s Bazar city via helicopter to participate in another event, with plans to travel to Lohagara, Chittagong, later in the day for additional rallies.
