An explosion at a house in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Monday night damaged part of the building, with police suspecting that 15 to 20 crude bombs stored there went off due to “excessive heat”.
The explosion took place around 8pm at the residence of Yahia Hossain, alias Ehu Hossain, in Musa Maulana Para of Narayanpur Union.
The loud blast shook the area, triggering panic among local residents and forcing neighbours to rush out of their homes.
Police and locals said the explosion occurred after crude bombs kept inside the house went off simultaneously. Police suspect that excessive heat caused the bombs to detonate.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Md Ekramul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, said police were sent to the spot immediately after receiving information about the blast.
“Initially, we suspect that 15 to 20 crude bombs exploded together. Drives are underway to identify and arrest those involved,” he said.
Police inspected the scene and launched an investigation into the incident, including the storage of explosives at the house.
