The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned that the ongoing heatwave affecting large areas of the country is expected to continue.
According to a bulletin issued on Tuesday morning, mild to moderate heatwave conditions are prevailing over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, as well as the districts of Dhaka, Narayanganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Mymensingh, Chandpur, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Barishal, Patuakhali and Bhola.
The Met Office also forecast rain in several regions over the next 24 hours starting from 9am. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, are expected at a few locations over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at isolated places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions.
Moderately heavy rainfall may occur at some locations in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
Day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged across the country. On Tuesday, the highest temperature recorded was 38.5 degrees Celsius in Sayedpur, Rangpur division, while the minimum temperature today is 23.3 degrees Celsius in Sylhet.
In Dhaka, the sun is expected to set at 6.43 pm today and rise at 5.11 am tomorrow.
