Veteran Bollywood screenwriter Salim Khan, father of Salman Khan, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday, 17 February, after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Late at night, reports circulated on social media claiming he had been placed on life support. However, no official statement was issued by the family or hospital authorities.
According to hospital sources, a sudden spike in blood pressure led to internal bleeding on the right side of his brain, reportedly caused by a ruptured blood vessel. Although his condition was described as ‘stable’ in an evening health bulletin, he remains under close observation.
Indian entertainment outlet Pinkvilla reported today that he was treated under the supervision of a neurologist using a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) procedure. Dr Jalil Parker, who is overseeing his treatment, said, “He is currently doing well. His condition is stable and he is being shifted to the ICU. Hopefully, his ventilator can be removed tomorrow (Thursday).”
Salman Khan reportedly left a film shoot and rushed to the hospital upon hearing of his father’s illness. A video of him leaving the hospital late at night circulated widely on social media, showing him visibly concerned.
Several family members, including Arbaaz Khan, Helen, Atul Agnihotri and Aayush Sharma, are present at the hospital. Javed Akhtar and Sanjay Dutt also visited to enquire about his health, while many from the industry have wished him a speedy recovery.
Now aged 90, Salim Khan remains one of the most influential screenwriters in the history of Hindi cinema. His celebrated ‘Salim-Javed’ partnership with Javed Akhtar reshaped mainstream Hindi cinema in the 1970s. The screenplays they penned led to landmark films such as Sholay, Deewaar, Zanjeer and Don. The duo also created the iconic ‘Angry Young Man’ persona on screen, propelling Amitabh Bachchan to superstardom.
Uncertainty surrounding his health continues. Although doctors were expected to provide a detailed update at 11:00 am on Wednesday, no further official statement had been issued at the time of writing.
