Veteran Bollywood screenwriter Salim Khan has reportedly been placed on life support after suffering a brain haemorrhage. The 90-year-old was admitted to Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday following a sudden deterioration in his health.
Concern spread rapidly across the film industry and among fans after late-night reports suggested that his condition had become critical. While social media carried claims that he was on life support, neither the family nor hospital authorities issued an immediate formal statement.
Hospital sources indicated that a sharp rise in blood pressure led to internal bleeding on the right side of his brain, believed to have been caused by a ruptured blood vessel. An earlier medical bulletin described his condition as “stable”, although he remains under strict observation. Reports have also suggested that he may undergo a surgical procedure on Wednesday.
Salman Khan reportedly left a film shoot immediately after receiving news of his father’s illness and rushed to the hospital. Footage of the actor leaving the facility late at night circulated widely online, showing him visibly distressed. Family members including Arbaaz Khan, Helen, Salma Khan, Alvira Khan, Arpita Khan, Atul Agnihotri and Aayush Sharma are understood to be by his side.
Close friend and long-time collaborator Javed Akhtar visited the hospital, as did actor Sanjay Dutt. Messages wishing him a speedy recovery have poured in from across the industry.
Salim Khan is widely regarded as one of the most influential screenwriters in the history of Hindi cinema. His celebrated partnership with Javed Akhtar, known as Salim-Javed, transformed mainstream storytelling in the 1970s.
Together they penned landmark films such as ‘Sholay’, ‘Deewaar’, ‘Zanjeer and Don’, shaping the era of the “angry young man” persona that propelled Amitabh Bachchan to superstardom.
