Ganosamhati Andolon chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, the BNP-supported candidate for Brahmanbaria-6, has urged, has urged the public to cast a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming national referendum scheduled for 12 February.
He made the call on Tuesday while conducting election campaigns in the Pahariyakandi Union of Bancharampur. Saki is contesting the Brahmanbaria-6 constituency as a BNP-supported candidate under the ‘Mathal’ (conical hat) symbol.
Saki emphasised the significance of the referendum alongside the parliamentary elections. He stated that the ‘July National Charter’ was written upon the blood of thousands of youths, and it is a collective responsibility to uphold the dignity of their sacrifice.
Reflecting on the political climate of the last 15 years, Saki highlighted the history of oppression, imprisonment, disappearances, and killings faced by the opposition.
He noted that while all opposition parties endured inhuman torture, the intensity of the crackdown on the BNP was the most severe. Despite such harassment, he praised the resilience of the people for not giving up.
Saki further asserted that the upcoming polls represent a renewed opportunity for citizens to exercise their right to vote. He urged the electorate to not only ensure a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum but also to secure victory for candidates belonging to the BNP, Ganosamhati Andolon, and the simultaneous movement alliance across the country.
