A new documentary titled ‘Sahosei Bikash’ (Courage to Prosperity) showcases the risks and resilience of traditional honey collectors in the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, according to a press release from the leading MFS, bKash.
Released onDecember 14 to mark Sundarbans Day, the three-minute 47-second film follows the Mawalis as they venture deep into the forest to harvest honey amid threats from tigers, crocodiles, venomous snakes, shifting tides and quicksand.
The documentary portrays the collectors spending weeks away from their families while navigating one of the country’s most hazardous ecosystems in order to earn a living.
It also highlights their reliance on mobile financial services to manage earnings in remote areas, where carrying cash can be risky. The collectors use their bKash accounts to receive payments, store income and send money home, the statement said.
Digital access allows them to remain financially connected with their families despite physical distance and limited infrastructure, it added. The documentary is available on the Amar bKash Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on its YouTube channel.
For nearly 15 years, bKash has provided digital financial services across Bangladesh, operating in cities, towns, villages, coastal areas, hill tracts and other remote regions, the company said.
