A Dhaka court has deferred the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi to 22 July, marking the 127th postponement.
Following a hearing, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam fixed the new date on Thursday afternoon.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), tasked with the probe, failed to submit the report on the scheduled day, prompting the court to set a fresh date.

On 11 February 2012, Sagar, news editor at Maasranga Television, and Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented flat in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. Their four‑and‑a‑half‑year‑old son, Mahir Sarowar Megh, was present at the time. Runi’s brother, Nausher Alam Roman, later filed a murder case at Sher‑e‑Bangla Nagar Police Station.
The accused are Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Masum Mintu, Kamrul Islam alias Arun, Abu Sayeed, two security guards of the couple’s residence—Palash Rudra Pal and Enayet Ahmed—and their “friend” Tanvir Rahman Khan. Among them, Tanvir and Palash are on bail, while the others remain in custody.
Initially, police investigated the case, later handed it over to Detective Branch, and subsequently to RAB. On 30 September last year, the High Court removed RAB from the probe and directed that a high‑powered taskforce formed through the Home Ministry take over.
The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub ul Islam ordered that the taskforce, headed by the PBI chief, conduct the investigation. The government formed the four‑member taskforce on 23 October.
