Foreign ministers from SAARC member countries have been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected members of parliament (MPs), scheduled for Tuesday at 10am. The oath-taking of new cabinet members will be held at 4pm on the same day.
Asif Nazrul, the outgoing law adviser, shared this information with journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday. The announcement followed the final meeting of the council of advisers held at the Chief Adviser’s Office earlier that morning.
According to the law adviser, the final meeting was a valedictory session where no major decisions were taken. Instead, the advisers shared their experiences and work highlights and were formally briefed on the upcoming swearing-in schedule.
International invitations
Responding to queries regarding an invitation to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the law adviser stated he had no information on the matter.
He clarified that, to his knowledge, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has so far extended invitations specifically to the foreign ministers of SAARC countries, and he was unaware of any invitations sent to any heads of government.
Ceremony details
Asif Nazrul further clarified that Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin is highly likely to administer the oath to the winning MPs at 10am. Following this, BNP has indicated it will elect its parliamentary party leader between 11:30am and 12pm.
The cabinet’s swearing-in ceremony will take place at 4pm at the South Plaza of Parliament. This specific venue was selected following an expressed preference by BNP.
Asif Nazrul noted that, as per current information, President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the new ministers. The Cabinet Division is currently managing the invitation process in accordance with established protocols.
