South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has assured its cooperation in expanding higher education, research, and academic exchange across its member nations.
The assurance was given during a courtesy meeting between the Vice-Chancellor of National University, Professor ASM Amanullah, and the SAARC Secretary General, Ambassador Golam Sarwar, on Thursday at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal.
During the meeting, they discussed in detail various matters concerning higher education, research, teacher-student exchanges, and expansion of academic cooperation between National University and universities within SAARC member countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Amanullah highlighted that various reform activities are currently being implemented to transform National University into an international-standard, research-oriented, and skill-centric higher education institution.
He said initiating joint research, academic sessions, and teacher-student exchange programmes with universities in SAARC countries would allow students to acquire international experience and open new horizons for regional knowledge-based cooperation.
Golam Sarwar highly praised the various reforms and quality improvement initiatives of the National University.
He said the SAARC Secretariat is ready to provide the necessary assistance to expand joint academic activities, teacher-student exchanges, and research cooperation among the universities of SAARC countries.
Sarwar also expressed his hope that increasing mutual cooperation in South Asia’s higher education sector would play a positive role in regional development and human resource development.
