Russia has called on the United States and Iran to continue diplomatic engagement and avoid a return to military confrontation amid rising tensions over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow urged both Washington and Tehran to maintain dialogue and prevent the situation from escalating into conflict.
She also reiterated Russia’s willingness to help remove enriched uranium from Iran, although she stressed that Moscow was not forcing the proposal on either side.
Her remarks came after US President Donald Trump said Washington would not allow Iran to keep its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
The future of roughly 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, which Iran is believed to possess, remains one of the key obstacles in ongoing negotiations.
Meanwhile, criticism of Trump’s handling of the crisis continued to grow in the United States.
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut accused the US president of making repeated mistakes in managing the conflict. Referring to Trump’s apparent threat to “blow up” Oman, Murphy said it reflected how badly the situation had deteriorated.
“They are in constant panic mode making mistake after mistake,” the senator wrote on X.
Trump has faced increasing criticism in recent days from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers over his handling of tensions involving Iran.
