Large parts of the capital faced severe traffic congestion on Sunday as different political parties and organisations blocked key roads to press home their demands.
Simultaneous demonstrations at several locations paralysed traffic movement, leaving commuters stuck for hours and causing widespread public suffering.
Members of several organisations staged demonstrations in front of the Jatiya Press Club, demanding inclusion in the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme for Ibtedayi Madrasa Teachers, recognition and MPO inclusion of schools for persons with disabilities, and incorporation of all recognised non-MPO educational institutions under the scheme.
In a press release, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said it was working to keep the traffic flow normal but expressed regret for the public inconvenience caused by the gridlock.
Meanwhile, job-seeking disabled graduates and candidates who passed the 43rd BCS examination blocked roads demanding recruitment in non-cadre positions, worsening traffic movement across the area.
