Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has received a consignment of medicines worth nearly Tk28 crore from the US-based charitable organisation Direct Relief for free distribution to patients.
The shipment arrived at the hospital on Wednesday morning through the efforts of Professor Md Azizul Haque Azad of the Department of Medicine. Hospital spokesperson Shankar Kumar Biswas said the consignment included 696 syringes of the biologic drug Adalimumab, valued at approximately Tk28 crore.
The medicines will be provided free of charge to eligible inpatients suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and other complex conditions. Professor Azad will oversee the patient selection process.
Direct Relief, which supplies medical aid globally, provides medicines and healthcare materials directly to hospitals and patients in need.
RMCH has previously received similar support through Professor Azad’s initiative, including medicines worth about Tk100 crore in March this year, Tk36 crore in November last year, and nearly Tk17 crore for heart patients in August 2025.
Professor Azad expressed gratitude to the hospital authorities and the Directorate General of Drug Administration for their assistance in importing the medicines, noting that many patients are benefiting from the free treatment programme.
