The government may arrange re-examinations for Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidates who were unable to appear in tests due to flooding or administrative failures, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon told Parliament on Tuesday.
“These students are our future. We will not deprive them of their rightful opportunities under any circumstances,” the minister said in response to a supplementary question from Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Md Shafiqul Islam from Patuakhali-2.
Milon said the Education Ministry has been closely monitoring examination centres nationwide during the monsoon season to ensure that students do not face unnecessary difficulties.
He said local administrations were instructed to immediately relocate examination centres whenever floodwater entered a venue so that candidates could sit for their tests without disruption.
“So far, Cumilla Government College has been the only major challenge, as its campus was inundated. In a few other cases, where water entered examination centres, authorities quickly shifted the venues and provided necessary arrangements for examinees,” he said.
The minister said the government was highly concerned about the ongoing HSC examinations and would take all necessary measures to ensure that no candidate suffers due to natural disasters.
He added that if any student failed to take an examination because of administrative lapses after floodwater affected an educational institution, the authorities would assess the situation and consider arranging a re-examination.
“Such a decision has already been taken for the Chattogram Education Board, and the option remains open where necessary,” Milon said.
The minister urged students to focus on their studies, assuring them that the government was equally concerned about ensuring a fair examination process despite the adverse weather conditions.
He reiterated that re-examination arrangements could be made in cases where candidates were unable to participate due to mistakes or failures in management.
