Former Bangladesh spinner Abdur Razzak is set to be appointed as the spin bowling coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) High Performance (HP) Unit on a one-year contract, a BCB official confirmed.
The appointment marks a new chapter in Razzak’s cricket journey as he transitions from administration to coaching.
Razzak is expected to join the HP setup after the conclusion of the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. However, sources within the BCB said he is likely to officially take up the role in the first week of June.
He is set to work under head coach Mohammad Salahuddin, alongside coaches Sohel Islam, Tushar Imran, Corey Collymore, Rajin Saleh, and Talha Jubair.
Razzak, 44, previously served as a national selector alongside Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu and Minhajul Abedin Nannu during different periods. During his time as a selector, he was also involved in monitoring and identifying talent from the Bangladesh ‘A’ and Emerging teams.
After his stint in selection, Razzak contested the BCB board elections and was elected as a board director unopposed. However, the board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul was later dissolved by the National Sports Council (NSC) over irregularities in the election process.
Following that, Razzak completed the Level-3 coaching course under the BCB’s Game Development Department, where he finished first among 30 participants.
HP batting coach Rajin Saleh told Times of Bangladesh that Razzak’s inclusion would be a major boost for the program, citing his long association with the BCB in different roles since retiring from playing.
“Razzak is a vastly experienced cricketer. He has worked with the BCB in various capacities. His years of experience in first-class and international cricket will definitely help Bangladesh cricket as he begins his coaching journey,” Rajin said.
