Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan has demanded resignation of Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury following the barbaric attack on party president Nurul Haque Nur.
He made the demand while talking to journalists on Saturday during his visit to Nur, who is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
“Do you have any responsibility in this incident? Were your instructions behind this attack? If not, you must clarify your position,” Rashed questioned.
He also said, “If you remain silent, we will assume you are involved in the incident. You’ve failed to maintain law and order. Since Friday, you no longer deserve to hold this position.”
“If you have any shame, you should apologise for the incident and step down.”
Replying to a query, Rashed said the party would discuss and decide on legal action over the incident.
“We’re considering filing a case against the army and police,” he added.
The Gono Odhikar Parishad leader stated, “Army members stabbed Nur in the chest and kicked him with boots. This is pure barbarity!”
He further said Nur’s condition is still critical, and he may be taken abroad for treatment.”
Rashed also raised questions about the intentions behind the attack, stating, “This was a planned attack with the intent to kill. Under whose orders did the army go out and spill our blood?”
He has called upon Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman to launch an investigation and take action against those responsible for the attack on Nur.
