Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said people will not accept an attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur.
On Saturday afternoon, while visiting Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to inquire about Nur’s health, he made these remarks to the press.
He stated, “The transformation process for democracy, which began in August of last year, will soon come to an end. What happened to Nur will never be repeated in the country again.”
He added, “We need to reflect on why he had to face such an ordeal. No one in Bangladesh should tolerate such inhumane treatment.”
Regarding elections, this BNP leader emphasized, “The only way to make the democratic process functional is through free and fair elections. Those who are elected through the people’s votes will govern the country. To restore this process, BNP will continue its movement.”
He further said, “There must be freedom of expression for everyone in peaceful, lawful, and democratic politics. No one should be silenced by force. We believe in peaceful politics, not in politics of unrest.”
At the time, BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam and Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan were present.
