Rangpur Riders skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan is keeping his sights firmly set on the bigger picture after guiding his team to a dramatic one-run victory over Hobart Hurricanes in the Global Super League on Sunday.
The match, held in Guyana, saw the Riders cling on in a tense finish, keeping their hopes of a place in the final alive. Despite the jubilation of a narrow win, Sohan remained grounded, highlighting the importance of consistency in their remaining fixtures.
“I think we need to play well in the next two matches as well to reach the final,” Sohan said. “There’s a long way to go. We’ve got two matches and obviously, the final we are looking for, inshaAllah.”
The Riders successfully defended a tight total, with Sohan quick to praise his bowlers for their efforts under pressure.
“Shamsi is our main bowler. Ifti bhai bowled really well. Khaled Ahmed and Omarzai also bowled really well in the end,” he noted.
In a nervy final over, the Riders’ bowlers held their nerve, with Sohan detailing the tactical discussions that took place.
“Me, Omarzai and Ifti bhai discussed a lot. I think it’s hard to hit the ball if you bowl a little bit slower,” he explained.
While pleased with the result, the captain was clear about the need for ongoing improvement. “We need to take the positives from here and learn from the mistakes as well,” he added.
With two crucial matches remaining, Rangpur Riders will look to build on this momentum as they chase a spot in the tournament final.
