Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter, accused in the rape and murder of child Ramisa in Dhaka’s Pallabi, were produced to court from prison on Monday morning.
They were kept in the custody cell of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
Judge Masrur Saleqin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Tribunal for Suppression of Violence Against Children is scheduled to hold a charge‑framing hearing in the presence of the accused. The court’s bench assistant, Pankaj Peter Gomez, confirmed the development.
On 24 May, Ohiduzzaman, a sub‑inspector of Pallabi Police Station and the investigating officer, submitted a charge sheet against the couple.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque accepted the charges and transferred the case to the child violence tribunal for trial.
That same day, Judge Masrur Saleqin took cognizance of the charges and set 1 June (Monday) for the hearing.
The Law Ministry appointed Musa Kalimullah, a member of Dhaka Bar Association, as state‑funded defence counsel.
On 19 May, second-grade student Ramisa Akter was raped and brutally murdered in Pallabi allegedly by Sohel Rana.
