Sheikh Rakibul Karim has been appointed managing director and CEO of Guardian Life Insurance Limited following approval from the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority on 20 January.
He had been serving as additional managing director and acting CEO of the company before the appointment.
The appointment reflects the board’s confidence in his leadership and his contribution to strengthening the insurer’s growth, governance and customer-focused strategy, the company said in a press statement.
Rakibul Karim joined Guardian Life Insurance Limited in 2019 as chief financial officer and later assumed broader senior leadership responsibilities, including the role of acting CEO.
During his tenure, the company strengthened compliance and governance practices, advanced digital transformation initiatives and expanded its customer base to 1.28 crore policyholders. Guardian also consolidated its position in bancassurance, digital insurance and microinsurance segments, the company said.
Before joining Guardian, he served as director of audit and advisory services at KPMG Bangladesh and held senior leadership roles at Grameenphone and Banglalink.
With the appointment, Guardian Life Insurance Limited aims to further strengthen innovation, promote financial inclusion and create long-term value for customers and stakeholders across Bangladesh, the company said.
