Ishtiaque Sadeque resigned on Saturday from his position as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, stepping down ahead of a scheduled board meeting in Dhaka.
A board source confirmed that Sadeque submitted his resignation letter during the BCB directors’ meeting on 24 January, which he did not attend. Sadeque had been serving as chairman of the board’s game development committee.
According to sources within the board, Sadeque had grown dissatisfied with the wider environment surrounding Bangladesh cricket and felt there were differences of opinion over aspects of the board’s work. Those factors contributed to his decision to step aside.
Speaking to Kaler Kantho, Sadeque said his resignation was driven by his inability to devote sufficient time to a role he considered critical. “I have resigned because I feel that despite being in charge of a big responsibility like the game development department, I am not able to give it the time it deserves,” he said. “I feel personally regretful about that.”
Sadeque expressed confidence that his successor would be able to move the department forward. “I believe that whoever comes in my place will give enough time and take this department ahead,” he said.
He also dismissed suggestions of any internal dispute within the board. “Absolutely not,” Sadeque said when asked whether there were problems with the board or any fellow directors. “There are no issues with anyone. I have good relationships with everyone. I am stepping aside from my position on my own.”
In a brief statement in English, the BCB confirmed that Sadeque, citing family reasons, had tendered his resignation from the board.
