Taylor Swift paid more than $160,000 to New York City for the permit required for her high-profile wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden, with the fee covering the public resources needed to stage the event.
According to ABC News, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed on Friday that Swift had already paid the permit fee, which exceeded $160,000. He said the permit was finalised only days before the event and covered the city’s response, including police deployments and traffic management.
“The permit that was lodged was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” Mamdani said during a press conference.
The event required significant city resources, with the New York Police Department deploying dozens of officers to manage road closures and traffic around Madison Square Garden. Police had earlier announced multi-day restrictions affecting both pedestrian and vehicle movement in the area, along with limited access to Moynihan Train Hall and Penn Station.
Ahead of the wedding, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the department would have a dedicated security detail in place for the occasion.
ABC News has contacted a representative for Swift for comment.
Before the celebrations, Swift and her husband, NFL star Travis Kelce, donated $26 million to several charities, according to a representative for the singer. One of the beneficiaries was Answer The Call, a New York City organisation that supports the families of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty.
Swift and Kelce married on 3 July in a ceremony officiated by actor and comedian Adam Sandler, a representative for the singer confirmed to ABC News. The wedding reportedly welcomed more than 1,000 guests.
Among those photographed arriving at Madison Square Garden in black-tie attire were actors Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke and Jason Sudeikis, singer Benson Boone, football legend Abby Wambach, and NFL players Chris Jones and Cooper Kupp. A cocktail reception was scheduled before the ceremony.
Representatives for Swift and Kelce did not confirm further details about the wedding celebrations.
