Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) Chairman Md Riazul Islam has pledged to identify all risk-prone buildings in Dhaka and take necessary measures to ensure public safety.
He made the statement on Saturday after inspecting a building damaged in Friday’s earthquake at Kasaituli in Old Dhaka.
Speaking to reporters, Engineer Riazul Islam said owner of the Kashaituli building failed to provide the design plans of the structure following damage caused by the earthquake, which led to the collapse of railings.
He warned that if the plans are not submitted within seven days, the building would be sealed.
The move follows reports of cracks and tilting in multiple buildings across Dhaka in the aftermath of Friday’s earthquake.
Under the chairman’s guidance, Rajuk’s Development Control Wing conducted on-site inspections to assess the condition of the affected structures.
Rajuk emphasised that strict action will be taken against owners who fail to comply with safety regulations, reinforcing the authority’s commitment to protecting residents from structural hazards.
