A heavy downpour brought Bangladesh’s opening training session to an abrupt halt on Tuesday, as the national football team prepared for their upcoming Asian Cup Qualifier against Hong Kong, China. The match is scheduled to be played at home on 9 October.
The afternoon skies over Dhaka opened up just as the men in red and green began their warm-up routines at the National Stadium. Although players and staff pushed through early stretches, the torrential rain soon forced everyone to run for cover, ending the session prematurely.
Bangladesh are currently third in Group C with one point, just ahead of India on goal difference. Group leaders Singapore and second-placed Hong Kong both have four points, with only goal difference separating the two.
So far in the qualifiers, Javier Cabrera’s side held India to a goalless draw before suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat against Singapore. Historically, Bangladesh have struggled against Hong Kong, failing to register a win in four previous encounters and managing only two draws.
The return fixture against Hong Kong is set for 14 October in Hong Kong, giving Cabrera’s side a tight window to prepare and turn the tide in their campaign.
