Bangladesh allrounder Shuvagata Hom made cricket history on Tuesday by becoming the first player from the country to achieve the double of 7,000 runs and 300 wickets in first-class cricket.
The 37-year-old veteran reached the landmark on Day 2 of Mymensingh Division’s third-round National Cricket League fixture against Dhaka Division at the Cox’s Bazar Cricket Stadium.
Shuvagata began the morning needing 70 runs to complete the historic double, having entered the day with 6,930 first-class runs and 311 wickets to his credit. Playing a patient and focused knock, the right-handed batter produced 71 off 125 balls, striking four boundaries to guide his side through the innings.
He comfortably navigated the threshold, adding one more run after passing the 7,000-run mark before eventually being dismissed.
The milestone cements Shuvagata’s place in domestic cricket history, underlining years of consistent productivity with both bat and ball across regional competitions. While his international appearances have been limited, featuring in eight Tests, four One Day Internationals, and five Twenty20 Internationals for Bangladesh, his domestic output remains unmatched in terms of long-format longevity.
His transition to Mymensingh Division in domestic cricket has continued to yield results, culminating in this unique record. No other Bangladeshi cricketer has combined 7,000 runs with 300 wickets in long-form cricket, making his achievement a standout benchmark for future generations of allrounders in the country.
The innings not only helped Mymensingh solidify their position in the ongoing National Cricket League match but also provided a fitting moment of celebration for one of the domestic game’s most reliable figures.
