Bangladesh Railway (BR) has officially published the complete schedule for the sale of advance and return train tickets ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festivities.
In a bid to ensure a smooth and orderly journey for homebound passengers, railway authorities confirmed that all tickets will be sold exclusively via online platforms this year.
Continuing the existing digital system, passengers can purchase tickets daily from 8am through the official railway website and mobile application.
Advance ticket sales
The sale of advance tickets is scheduled to commence on 13 May. According to the schedule, tickets for travel on 23 May will be available on 13 May; tickets for 24 May will be sold on 14 May; travel for 25 May on 15 May; travel for 26 May on 16 May; and travel for 27 May on 17 May.
Railway officials have clarified that special arrangements will be made for journeys scheduled for 28, 29, and 30 May, depending on the sighting of the moon.
The schedule for return journey tickets has also been finalised. Sales will begin on 21 May for travel on 31 May. Subsequently, tickets for 1 June will be sold on 22 May; 2 June on 23 May; 3 June on 24 May; and 4 June on 25 May.
Special Services and Regulations
To manage the holiday rush, five pairs of special Eid trains will be operational. Furthermore, to facilitate the transport of sacrificial animals, two cattle special trains will run on the Dhaka-Jamalpur route on 22 and 23 May.
Strict regulations have been introduced to eliminate black marketing and passenger suffering. Every passenger must undergo mandatory National ID (NID) verification during the online purchase process.
Each passenger is permitted to purchase a maximum of four tickets in a single transaction and may only purchase tickets once. Authorities have explicitly stated that tickets issued for the Eid period are non-refundable.
To accommodate those without advance bookings, standing tickets for non-higher classes will be available at station counters on the day of travel, capped at 25 percent of the total seat capacity.
Senior railway officials have urged the public to provide accurate information during the booking process and to adhere strictly to all regulations to ensure a safe and festive journey.
