Import and export operations across the country will continue on a limited scale during the Durga Puja public holidays to ensure uninterrupted trade.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has instructed customs authorities to keep customs houses and stations operational on a limited basis from 20 to 22 October.
The directive was issued in a letter dated 15 October and disclosed by the revenue board on Saturday.
The letter, signed by Rezaul Karim, second secretary of the NBR’s Customs Policy Division, was sent to the relevant customs commissioners, customs houses and stations, as well as various trade-related organisations.
The NBR directed the authorities to take necessary measures to maintain limited import and export operations during the Durga Puja holidays in the interest of keeping the country’s trade smooth and uninterrupted.
The revenue board also requested Bangladesh Bank, various chambers of commerce and trade bodies to issue the necessary instructions to ensure that import and export activities continue during the holiday period.
The initiative aims to minimise disruptions to the clearance of imported and exported goods and other commercial activities during the public holidays.
