RAB-2 has arrested six snatchers, including Mohammadpur’s top terrorist Farid Ahmed Babu (alias Excel Babu) and Abu Said, second-in-command of the “Kobzikata Anwar” group, in connection with a brazen daylight snatching and attack on police in Adabor’s Shekhertek-7 area.
The arrests were made during an operation on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
On 16 June, around 4:45pm, a gang entered a bKash shop in the Shekhertek-7 area, attacked the agent with machetes, and snatched Tk3 lakh in cash and a mobile phone.
When Adabor Police Station conducted a raid at the snatchers’ hideout based on received information, the snatchers attacked the police team with local weapons. Officer-in-Charge Jahidul Islam and SI Tarun were seriously injured by machete blows.
Following the incident, RAB-2’s intelligence team intensified surveillance in the area and conducted an operation, arresting six individuals. They were identified as Abu Said (33), Rasel Khondkar (32), Md Liton (28), Md Tawsif (30), and Md Tarikul Islam.
A review of PCR records shows that Excel Babu is a wanted accused in multiple cases, including snatching and theft, filed at various police stations in the capital.
RAB said necessary legal action against the arrested accused is currently underway. The elite force has vowed to continue such operations in the future based on intelligence gathered from interrogations.
