Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 has adopted maximum security measures across Patuakhali ahead of Eid-ul-Adha to ensure safe travel for holidaymakers and maintain law and order at sacrificial cattle markets.
RAB-8’s Crime Prevention Company-1 (CPC-1) in Patuakhali said its personnel have already been deployed in the field with heightened patrol and intelligence activities across the district.
According to RAB sources, special operational teams and intelligence surveillance have been strengthened at important cattle markets to ensure the safety of buyers and sellers during Eid trading.
Modern fake currency detection machines have also been installed at cattle markets to prevent fraud and the circulation of counterfeit notes.
In addition, uniformed and plainclothes RAB personnel have intensified patrols on highways, ferry terminals, launch ghats and key cattle markets across the district.
The elite force said it has adopted a strict stance against extortion, robbery and other criminal activities, particularly during the transportation of sacrificial animals.
To ensure safe Eid travel, special checkpoints and regular patrol operations have been introduced at major bus terminals, launch ghats and transport hubs to prevent incidents involving muggers, drugging gangs and “ointment parties”.
RAB has also increased intelligence monitoring in shopping centres, markets and major Eidgah grounds in view of the Eid shopping rush and large public gatherings.
Speaking about the overall security arrangements, Squadron Leader Rashed, Company Commander of RAB-8 CPC-1 Patuakhali Camp, said the force remains on maximum alert to ensure public safety during Eid-ul-Adha.
“We are maintaining strict surveillance so that buyers and sellers at cattle markets can carry out transactions without harassment. RAB-8 is particularly committed to preventing extortion during the transportation of sacrificial animals,” he said.
He added that patrol and intelligence operations would continue throughout the Eid holidays to maintain normal law and order and ensure the security of Eid congregations and homebound travellers.
The Patuakhali RAB camp also urged the public to remain cautious and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information promptly in the event of any suspicious activity or untoward situation.
