Special security measures have been taken at the Central Shaheed Minar and across the country on the occasion of Shaheed Dibash (Martyrs’ Day) and International Mother Language Day, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Additional IGP AKM Shahidur Rahman said.
Speaking at a press conference at the Shaheed Minar premises in the capital on Friday morning, he announced that the official observance of Amar Ekushey will begin at 12:01am.
He said comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the programme is conducted smoothly, orderly, and safely. RAB members have been deployed in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
Detailing the security plan, Shahidur Rahman said inner and outer perimeter-based security rings have been established around the Shaheed Minar area. The entire zone has been divided into several sectors, each with foot patrols, vehicle patrols, and striking reserves.
Bomb disposal teams and dog squads will remain on standby, while 64 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the area.
“We have no specific security threat, but we are fully prepared,” he said.
On nationwide programmes, the RAB chief noted that various events will be held across the country to honour the language martyrs, with adequate security measures in place.
Speaking about law and order, he said law enforcement agencies have worked over the past one and a half years to bring the country from a fragile situation to stability, expressing hope that conditions will further improve.
He also warned that no acts of sabotage or disorder under the guise of movements or demands will be tolerated. “We want the people of this country to move freely. We will remain vigilant to ensure nothing disrupts their normal lives,” he added.
