Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven people, including prime accused Moin Uddin, in connection with the CKD Urology Hospital extortion case that recently sparked outrage on social media.
Four of the arrestees are Md Falan Mia, aged 42, Md Rubel, aged 42, Md Swapan Kazi, aged 36, and Md Shawon Hossain, aged 25. The names of the two others could not be confirmed immediately.
Moin Uddin, aged 42 and identified as the ringleader, was arrested from Kalia in Narail district, RAB said.
On 11 April 2026, reports emerged of an extortion incident at CKD Urology Hospital in Sher‑e‑Bangla Nagar, which quickly drew widespread criticism in the media.
A RAB‑2 team visited the hospital around 1:40am on Monday, interviewed witnesses, collected CCTV footage, and obtained Moin’s phone number.
RAB officials said the arrests were part of a joint effort to dismantle the extortion network linked to hospitals. The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting concerns about corruption and criminal activity in healthcare facilities.
According to case documents, the accused had been demanding money for some time from Abu Hanif, the in‑charge of the operation theatre at CKD Urology Hospital, which was established by kidney specialist Kamrul Islam.
Last Friday around 8am, Moin, along with several unidentified men, went to Abu Hanif’s residence in Shyamoli and threatened to harm his family if he refused to pay.
When the matter became public, the group later gathered with more than 50 people in front of the hospital, creating chaos and disorder. Abu Hanif then informed police at Sher‑e‑Bangla Nagar station, who arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
