A convicted prisoner died at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Wednesday and was later declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The deceased was identified as Abdul Rashid, 65, a convict lodged at the prison.
According to police, Rashid was taken to the emergency department of DMCH in an unconscious condition at around 12:30pm. Doctors on duty examined him and declared him dead on arrival.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said prison guards had brought the inmate to the hospital for treatment.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Prison sources said Abdul Rashid, convict No. 9047/A, was the son of the late Akbar Ali.
However, details of the case in which he had been convicted were not immediately available.
