Family Card programme, launched as a pilot project on 10 March this year, has so far been implemented in 54 upazilas and 56 wards across 52 districts. The initiative is being executed as the flagship programme of the Ministry of Social Welfare.
This information was disclosed on Tuesday at National Parliament during the first meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Social Welfare of the 13th National Parliament.
During the session, the overall activities of the Ministry of Social Welfare and its subordinate departments and organisations were presented to the committee members through a PowerPoint presentation.
Speaking at the meeting chaired by Committee Chairman Md Shahjahan, Minister for Social Welfare Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain said, “We want to work together for the development of this ministry with an attitude of universal welfare for all, rather than from a partisan perspective.”
State Minister Farzana Sharmin praised the activities of the ministry and emphasised the necessity of adopting coordinated and up-to-date measures.
Meanwhile, committee member Md Mojibur Rahman called for the involvement of local Members of Parliament in the ministry’s upazila-level operations.
Alongside Family Card initiative, the meeting also included detailed discussions on overall operations of the Ministry of Social Welfare and its various departments and agencies.
