Six prisoners, including a Bangladeshi national, escaped from a jail in the Indian Tripura state after assaulting a prison guard. The incident took place at the Kalikapur Sub Jail in Dharmanagar, North Tripura district, at 6:02 am on Wednesday.
CCTV footage captured the moment of the escape. Among the six prisoners, one is serving a life sentence, while the other five are awaiting trial, said Devyani Chowdhury, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Dharmanagar and the Superintendent of the jail, reports regional agencies.
Chowdhury said , “I received a phone call from the Jamnagar Sub Jail and rushed to the spot. Upon arriving, I gathered information from the staff present at the scene.”
She further added, “An investigation has been launched, and the SDPO of Dharmanagar and the SP of North Tripura are conducting separate inquiries. The Border Security Force (BSF) and all nearby police stations have been alerted.”
