Prime Bank PLC has led an “Upazila-based Agricultural Credit Campaign, Discussion Meeting, and Open Loan Distribution Programme” in Madhabpur, Habiganj, aimed at bringing banking services directly to farmers and boosting agricultural production.
The event, held on Tuesday, was organised under the guidance of Bangladesh Bank, Sylhet. A total of 15 scheduled banks operating within Madhabpur Upazila participated in the initiative, with Prime Bank PLC serving as the lead bank, reads a press release.
During the programme, agricultural loan cheques were distributed to 50 local farmers. The attendees noted that such public distribution initiatives ensure the loan process is more transparent, rapid, and accessible for the farming community. To further educate the public, an awareness video regarding agricultural credit was screened for farmers and local residents.
The meeting was chaired by Madhabpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mehedi Hasan, while Bangladesh Bank Additional Director Md Javed Ahmed attended as the chief guest. Prime Bank PLC Deputy Managing Director Syed Sajjad Haider Chowdhury was present as the special guest.
Speakers at the event emphasised the vital role of agricultural credit in enhancing food production, improving the livelihoods of farmers, and supporting the national economy. They further assured the farmers of sustained banking support and technical assistance to facilitate the expansion of their agricultural activities.
The campaign was also attended by the Madhabpur Upazila Agriculture Officer, Fisheries Officer, and Livestock Officer. Representing Prime Bank were Md Humayun Kabir, Regional Head of Sylhet Region, and Shahana Parveen, Head of Agro Business, alongside branch managers and officials from the 15 participating scheduled banks.
