Primary school students have received 100 percent of their textbooks on the very first day of the year, said the Adviser of Primary and Mass Education Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar.
He made these remarks on Thursday at the inauguration of the textbook distribution programme at Abul Bashar Government Primary School in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Bidhan Ranjan added that the quality of this year’s books is also better than before, and this is a major success of the interim government. The government has printed a total of 30 crore free textbooks for the primary and secondary levels this year.
It was also informed that printing and distribution for the primary level are 100 percent complete, while 60 percent of secondary-level books have been delivered to students, he added.
Due to the ongoing state mourning following the death of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, the books were handed over to students informally, without holding a book distribution festival.
