President Md Sahabuddin is set to deliver the inaugural speech at the first session of the 13th National Parliament, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed on Wednesday.
The session will begin on Thursday at 11am, during which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the parliament will be elected.
The President will administer the oath to the newly elected officeholders.
Earlier on Wednesday, the ruling BNP parliamentary party held a meeting at the National Parliament building, chaired by Parliament Leader and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, to discuss preparations for the upcoming session.
At the meeting on the ninth floor of the parliament, MPs decided unanimously to delegate the nomination of candidates for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker posts to the parliament leader, according to Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni.
The names of the candidates are expected to be announced during Thursday’s session.
