President Mohammed Shahabuddin paid homage to the martyred intellectuals in Dhaka’s Mirpur, marking Martyred Intellectuals Day on Sunday.
He paid tribute by placing a wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur around 7am. He then stood there in silence for a while.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus also paid homage to the martyred intellectuals at 7:22am.
Martyred Intellectuals Day is one of the most tragic days in the history of the country’s independence and Liberation War. On this day, 14 December 1971, the nation endured the unbearable pain of losing its intellectual sons.
In the final days of the 1971 Liberation War, these eminent people were brutally killed in an attempt to intellectually paralyse the newly emerging Bangladesh.
On the occasion of the day, President Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Yunus issued separate messages expressing deep respect for the martyred intellectuals.
