Bangladeshi actress Pori Moni has spoken candidly about her personal life, ongoing legal battle, arrest and the possibility of getting married again during a recent press conference, saying she remained silent for years because she believed the truth would eventually come to light.
Reflecting on public scrutiny, the actress said she often faces criticism regardless of who she is seen with.
“If I post a photo even with my brother, I receive abuse. People do not want to see me with any man.They only want to see me single and with my children. I do not know why,” she said.
Speaking about her arrest, Pori Moni said she had never publicly discussed the matter after being released from jail.
“I always believed that the truth eventually explodes. No matter how much you try to suppress it, it finds a way to come out. Just as no crime is perfect, no truth can remain hidden forever,” she said.
The actress alleged that proper legal procedures were not followed during her arrest.
According to her, there was no arrest warrant at the time, nor did the authorities have permission to search her residence.
Pori Moni said that after learning more about the circumstances surrounding the incident, she felt many aspects of it appeared to have been planned.
However, she chose to remain patient.
“Patience has kept me alive over the past six years. Now I feel incredibly happy and relieved, as though I have grown wings. It feels like a huge burden has finally been lifted from my shoulders,” she said.
Commenting on the case against her, the actress said it had not been filed by an individual but was based on allegations that she had harassed and blackmailed various people.
In the ongoing legal proceedings, she said she had never tried to pressure the state or seek sympathy.
“I have faith in the legal system. No matter how long it takes or how many court appearances I have to make, I will do so. I believe that one day the court will declare me innocent and restore my honour,” she said.
Pori Moni also called for greater security for everyone in Bangladesh, saying the issue extends beyond the entertainment industry.
“It is not only artists who deserve protection. Every citizen of Bangladesh should feel safe. Whether someone is an artist, a rickshaw puller or anyone else, everyone deserves security. We all want to live free from harassment,” she added.
