The hanging body of a policeman has been recovered from the bathroom of a barrack at Chattogram’s Chawkbazar Police Station. The deceased, Ahidur Rahman, 32, served as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).
He was the son of Md Shahidullah from Bani Datta Bazar in Kabirhat, Noakhali.
On Sunday morning, after he remained in the bathroom for an extended period without coming out, his colleagues broke down the door. They later recovered his body in a hanging state and took him to Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
The body has been kept in the morgue of CMCH for an autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest he died by suicide. However, the reason behind the suicide remains unknown.
Assistant Commissioner (Media) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Aminur Rashid said, “Ahidur Rahman went to sleep after finishing his night duty. In the morning, when he was taking too long in the bathroom, he was called.
“After breaking down the door, his hanging body was found. The reason that may have led to his suicide will be known upon investigation.”
