Police recovered the hanging body of a constable from a toilet inside the Jatrabari police outpost in Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shafikul Islam, 42.
Police recovered the body around 9.30am and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examination.
According to the inquest report, Sub-Inspector Md Kawsar Hossain of Jatrabari Police Station said Shafikul reportedly took his own life by hanging himself with a rope tied to an iron angle inside the outpost toilet. The incident likely occurred at any time between 3.30am and 8.25am on Wednesday.
Police later recovered the body after receiving information. Initial findings suggest it was a case of suicide.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s nephew, Md Al-Amin, said Shafikul’s home is in Matlab North upazila of Chandpur district. After the post-mortem on Wednesday afternoon, the body was taken to the Rajarbagh Police Lines. It will later be taken to Chandpur.
The burial is scheduled for 10am on Thursday.
Family members believe Shafikul may have taken his own life due to mental distress.
