Bangladesh’s relations with China and Malaysia have further strengthened following the Prime Minister’s six-day official visit to the two countries, LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday.
Speaking in Parliament while moving a motion of thanks on prime minister’s foreign tour, the minister said the visit marked a significant step forward in Bangladesh’s diplomatic and economic engagements.
He said this was prime minister’s first official foreign visit since assuming office, adding that it carried special importance for the country’s foreign relations.
The minister described the visit as “highly successful,” noting that multiple agreements were signed during the tour, strengthening bilateral cooperation with both countries.
He said the prime minister had “enhanced Bangladesh’s global image” through the visit and received international recognition for her leadership.
Referring to protocol during the trip, he said the prime minister had instructed that no ceremonial receptions be arranged before or after foreign visits, avoiding what he termed unnecessary practices from the past.
Highlighting the Malaysia visit, Fakhrul said the relationship between the two countries had reached a new level, particularly in reopening labour markets, creating fresh employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers, and safeguarding the interests of expatriate workers.
On the China visit, he said 17 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, covering trade, investment in major infrastructure projects, and expanded strategic cooperation.
He further said China has shown commitment to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the Rohingya crisis, including assisting in ongoing diplomatic initiatives for a sustainable solution.
