Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to confer the Ekushey Padak 2026 at a ceremony in the capital on February 26, Thursday.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the awards will be presented at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium at 11:00 am.
The government has already announced the names of nine distinguished individuals and one music band to receive the country’s second-highest civilian honour in recognition of their outstanding contributions across various fields.
This year’s recipients are Farida Akhtar Babita for film, Professor Md Abdus Sattar for fine arts, architect Marina Tabassum for architecture, the late Ayub Bachchu for music, Arthy Ahmed for dance, Islam Uddin Palakar for palagan, Shafik Rehman for journalism, Professor Dr Mahbubul Alam Majumdar for education, and Tejosh Haldar Josh for sculpture. Popular rock band Warfaze will receive the award in the music band category.
The Ekushey Padak is awarded annually to individuals and organisations for their notable contributions to language, culture, education and other significant sectors, marking one of the highest recognitions bestowed by the state.
