Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the opening of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The decision was made at a meeting held on Sunday regarding the third terminal at the airport in the Cabinet Division conference room at the Secretariat.
After the meeting with the prime minister, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanum informed journalists that the Tarique Rahman has given the directive to open the third terminal of the airport. Afroza Khanum said, “The prime minister is trying to ensure the third terminal is opened soon. He has given instructions in this regard.”
When asked about the timeline for opening, the Minister said, “It cannot be said now when it will be opened. Discussions are ongoing on how the terminal can be expedited. We are discussing how to start the work. However, a specific time cannot be given. An investigation will be conducted on the matter first. After that, work will begin.”
In response to a question about why the terminal could not be opened despite the previous government completing more than 99 percent of the work, the minister said, “Why it wasn’t being opened was during the time of the interim government; you could have asked them that question. Now the current prime minister is trying to ensure the terminal is opened soon. He has given instructions in this regard.”
The meeting held at the Secretariat was chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Among those present at the meeting were Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanum, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq, and other concerned officials.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador, Abdullah Jafar H Bin Abiah, met with the prime minister at the Secretariat. The Ambassador congratulated Tarique Rahman on assuming office as prime minister. Discussions were held on matters of mutual interest between the two countries.
The prime minister expressed optimism, stating that the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia will reach new heights in the future. Also present during the meeting were Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir.
