Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday sought support from member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to help resolve the long-standing Rohingya crisis.
He made the appeal when ambassadors and high commissioners of OIC member countries stationed in Dhaka paid a courtesy call on him at his Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat in the afternoon, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.
During the meeting, the envoys congratulated Tarique Rahman on assuming office as Prime Minister.

The OIC member states also reiterated their commitment to stand by Bangladesh and expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation in multiple sectors, including investment, trade, education, healthcare, textiles and pharmaceuticals.
Jahidul Islam Rony said the prime minister welcomed the assurances and, on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, expressed gratitude to the OIC countries for their continued support.
Tarique Rahman also recalled the historical brotherly relations Bangladesh maintained with OIC member states during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and expressed hope that these ties would be further deepened in the future.
Representatives from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Palestine, Algeria, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates attended the meeting, along with heads of mission from Iran, Iraq and Libya.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, Foreign Ministry Secretary M Forhadul Islam, and Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman were also present.
